DeYarmond Edison – “Bones”
Justin Vernon’s old band. I love the laziness of the song. The choral repetition of “and I’m so far from not caring” that closes it out makes me listen over and over and over again.
** Fast Forward to 3:25 for “Bones” **

It’s been awhile since we featured a Song of the Day on the ‘ol blog, so I thought we would make up for lost time and do a little Thanksgiving break playlist. It’s the perfect collection of indie goodness that you will need to get you through the food coma that we are all about to enter into. Enjoy!

Ryan Adams & The Cardinals – “If I Am A Stranger”

Last night, the Chop Shop crew was in attendance for the much anticipated The Twilight Saga: New Moon movie premiere. While the worldwide release of the film is just days away, we have a first look from the folks responsible for the fantastic music featured in the film and on the soundtrack.
Here are a few photos and highlights from last nights festivities:

Volturi Eyes
Alex: “So great to see (and hear) all of the fans from our arriving car. It was sad to disappoint them with Team Chop Shop rather than Edward or Jacob. I loved working on this movie and enjoyed watching the finished film. Yea Chris Weitz!”
John: “The cast of New Moon was so humble and were very gracious towards their fans. I was totally impressed. Weird seeing mohawk guy and wheel chair guy from Glee there. Even weirder was seeing 50 Cent and Richie Sambora. My highlight was seeing Larry David at the after party. It was surreal, like I was in an episode of Curb or something. Another highlight was getting to the theater and having Jennifer Love Hewitt ask if I know Anya and then proceeding to tell me how amazing she is.”
Kasey: “Limo. Red Carpet. Anya Marina Reporting Live. NEW MOON SCREENING! Music via CHOP SHOP! Hammer Museum After Party. Red Robed Servers. Real Live Wolves. Amazing Night.”
Brittany: “I loved walking into the Hammer museum, grabbing a highly anticipated glass of wine, and turning around only to see two of the most beautiful wolves right behind me. The whole event was absolutely stunning and completely unforgettable.”
Ginger: “I would have to say one of my highlights was getting out of the car and onto the red carpet and being immersed into the New Moon frenzy. I really felt the impact of the film at that moment”

Also, soundtrack artist Anya Marina co-hosted the MySpace New Moon Premiere red carpet show last night and did a fantastic job! You can see some footage from the broadcast below.

“Swimming In The Swamp” – The National Lights
One of my all time favorite albums is The Dead Will Walk, Dear by The National Lights. Unfortunately, it is an album, I think it safe to say, that hardly anyone has heard.
It is music that you play over and over again and it isn’t until the 20th listen that you realize the lyrics are about murder and gruesome death. The fantastic part is that you keep listening.
** Couldn’t find an audio source to embed (if you find one, let me know!)…you can listen on their MySpace page **

Spending the day at the Santa Anita Racetrack is one of the best things you can do in Los Angeles. With the old fashioned grandstand, the corn beef sandwiches, old ladies in fabulous hats, and the San Gabriel Mountains as a backdrop, I don’t see how anyone could not appreciate their time spent here.
Not to mention the horses and the gambling. Whether it’s picking a winner because it is a long shot or because it’s name
is Boston Baked Bean, Gozzip Girl, or Wickednwackyingrigd, placing a superfecta bet for one dollar (and the chance to win millions – well maybe not that much) is enough to raise your blood pressure for the two minute race.
Get yourself to Oak Tree – Santa Anita this fall…you will thank me.

“Dog Days Are Over” – Florence & The Machine
I haven’t heard a voice like this in a while. It’s like Adele joined an indie rock band and started singing about wolves and coffins. I swear I hear early Sarah McLachlan (think “Vox” from Touch) in her voice on this album as well. Lungs tops my list of favorite records of the year.
Yep. I said it.
“Dead Pony” – Nico Stai
“Dead Pony off The Dead Pony EP is one of my favorite tracks. Nico Stai is one of my favorite artists. We used him on our first webisode of Rockville CA. He has the incredible ability to write a melody and hook that makes you put the song on repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.”

“Green Cotton Dress” by Correatown

From Kasey:
“Green Cotton Dress by Correatown makes me want to put on gold high heels and ride around los angeles in a taxicab at 4am. What other song makes you want to do that? Angie’s vocals are insane. So memorable. So authentic. And her songwriting? Check out her new album, Burn. Spark. Fade. You will be slayed. Yes, slayed.”
Head over to iTunes to download and ensure that you get “slayed”.
